Jhalda Housewife to Compete in 2nd Ankurastra Cup 2024 Karate Championship, Breaking Stereotypes on Women’s Empowerment in Martial Arts

Housewife from jhalada to Participate in 2nd Ankurastra Cup 2024 – All India Karate Championship in Himachal Pradesh

A All India Karate Championship is set to take place on December 29, 2024, in Indoor Stadium Dharamshala, Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Seven participants from Purulia district, trained under Sensei Sumit Goswami, the Vice President of the World Ankurastra Shotokan Karate Federation’s West Bengal branch, are gearing up to participate in this competition. Among them is Jhalda’s housewife, Joyeeta Goswami, wife of Sensei Sumit Goswami.

Joyeeta, who has been watching her husband teach karate for years, was inspired to learn karate herself, especially after her son earned his black belt. She shares that since beginning her karate journey, she has noticed many positive changes in herself, including improved physical health, mental well-being, and overcoming fear. Since her son studies away from home, she has had to manage everything independently, and karate has greatly reduced her fears.

Joyeets is determined to break new ground by showing that married women can learn karate too. She encourages all married and unmarried women to learn karate as a means of self-defense and to build their own self-confidence. She believes that anyone, regardless of marital status, can benefit from karate. Only time will tell, through her performance in the tournament, how much she has been able to learn. She adds, “If boys and girls can learn karate, why can’t housewives? After all, they are women too.
